24 Jan 2023, 13:01

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will meet on Wednesday January 25th to carry out detailed scrutiny of the Industrial Relations (Provisions in Respect of Pension Entitlements of Retired Workers) Bill 2021.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House between 10:45-12:30.

The following representatives are due to appear:

• Tony Collins, Chairman, National Executive – ESB Retired Staff Association
• Sue Shaw, CEO, Irish Senior Citizens Parliament
• Walter Croke – former Master Glass-Blower- Waterford Crystal Pension Action Group
• Dr John M. Hearne – former Master Glass- Cutter, retired teacher and lecturer – Waterford Crystal Action Group

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Maurice Quinlivan TD said:
“We welcome the opportunity to discuss this important Bill and to examine all the issues to ensure stakeholders such as retired workers, trade unions and industrial relations bodies are given the chance to express their views on the Bill.

“This Bill aims to give retired workers a voice and access to the Workplace Relations Commission in situations where their pension scheme is being changed.

People who are employed or self-employed have access to institutions such as trade unions, and the Workplace Relations Commission to raise issues that affect them however once they retire, there is a lack of developed structures to support them to claim their rights.”

“It is important that we receive input from organisations representing retired workers to strengthen their rights in relation to representation and participation in issues concerning their occupational pension schemes.”
