Vol. 372 No. 13

Written Answers. - Amenity Grant Scheme.

143.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the applications on hand for capital grants for special amenity projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no formal application arrangements in relation to the amenity grant scheme. Large numbers of projects, totalling more than 1,100 have been put forward for consideration by local authorities, community groups, etc. Many of the projects do not come within the intended scope of the scheme and, in any event, budgetary constraints will preclude assistance for more than a small proportion of those submitted. Having regard to these considerations, no useful purpose would be served by listing details of the applications.
